Overview

Sharp Maritime Security Training Services Inc.(SMSTSI) is a Manila- based company established in June 2003 to render quality training services to address the pressing needs of the maritime community in the Philippines and abroad. It is part of the C.F. Sharp Group of Companies. At present, the Company provides training to shipboard personnel on ship security and maritime security awareness, crowd management and crisis management courses. It plans to expand the scope of courses offered to include other facets of maritime training.

Sharp Maritime Security Training Services Inc. (SMSTSI) is a Manila- based company established in June 2003 to render quality training services to address the pressing needs of the maritime community in the Philippines and abroad. It is part of the C.F. Sharp Group of Companies. At present, the Company provides training to shipboard personnel on Ship Security Officer’s Course ( IMO Model Course 3.19 ), Maritime Security Awareness Course, Ship Security Awareness Training and Seafarers with Designated Security Duties Course ( IMO Model Courses 3.26 and 3.27 ), Crowd Management Course ( IMO Model Course 1.28 ) and Crisis Management Course ( IMO Model Course 1.29 ) for Seafarers assigned to work onboard Passenger and RO-RO/Passenger Vessels. It plans to expand the scope of courses offered in other facets of maritime safety and security training programs in compliance with STCW Manila Amendments 2010 under the authority and accreditation of Maritime Industry Authority ( MARINA ) STCW Office. Aside from being an ISO 9001:2008 compliant, SMSTSI is likewise recognized as a Panamanian accredited assessment center for non watch keeping and hotel staff seafarers in accordance with ILO 69 and SOLAS 74, and the 43rd testing center worldwide accredited by the U.K. Maritime and Coast Guard Agency (MCA) for the Marlins English Test. Training / Services The 9/11 tragedy saw the need to review the measures already adopted by the International Maritime Organization to combat acts of violence and crime at sea and to come up with means on how to protect the entire industry from acts of terrorism. It was decided on November 2001, the 22nd regular session of the assembly, that in December 2002 amendments should be made to SOLAS Chapter XI to enhance maritime security. Thus by virtue of the amendments to SOLAS Chapter XI, the International Code for the Security of Ships and Port Facilities ( ISPS Code ) was promulgated. Part A of this code is mandatory while Part B contains additional guidance. This new legislation affects vessels on international voyages that include passenger ships, cargo ships over 500 GT and Mobile Offshore Drilling Units, and port facilities serving vessels on international voyages. Security Officers Training Course This is a three day course designed to provide instruction and proficiency in compliance with Regulation VI/5 of the 1978 STCW Convention, as amended and Section A-VI/5 of the STCW Code, 2010 Manila Amendments. Maritime Security Awareness Training Course This is a one day informational seminar on maritime security practices and regulations. It complies with the requirements of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Level I Anti-terrorism Briefing. Ship Security Awareness Training and Seafarers with Designated Security Duties Course This is a one day course, ISPS Code and Chapter XI-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended. Regulation VI/6 of the STCW Convention, as amended Section A-VI/6, paragraphs 4, 6, 7 and 8 and Tables A-VI/6-1 and Tables A-VI/6-2 of the STCW Code 2010 Manila Amendments. Crowd Management Course A twelve hour course that covers the mandatory minimum requirements for the training of personnel boarding ro-ro and ro-ro passenger ships as specified under regulations V/2 para. 4,5, & 6 and V/3 para. 4,5, & 6 of the STCW Code – 78 Convention, as amended. Crisis Management Course A twelve hour course that covers the mandatory minimum requirements for the training of personnel aboard ro-ro passenger ships, and the training of personnel on passenger ships other than ro-ro passenger ships as specified under Regulation V/2, para. 7 and 8, and V./3 para. 7 and 8 of the the STCW Convention, and specified in Section A-V/2 pa. 4 and 5. of the STCW Code – 78 Convention, as amended. International Safety Management The Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1994, is a one day course covering Chapter IX of the International Convention for as amended and the International Safety Management Code as adopted. Marine Pollution VI Course This two day course provides training for masters, deck and engine officers and ratings in order to enable them to maintain and operate a ship in accordance with MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI with view in protection Air against pollution from ships. Maritime English A three day course that covers both linguistic and Maritime English language guidelines of Part B – VI/I of the STCW Code 1995; The linguistic content of the course follows a multi-syllabus approach that integrates the three language systems (grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation). UPCOMING ADDITIONAL COURSES Magnetic Compass Adjustment Course in accordance with STCW Code as amended Part A Chapter II Section A-VI/1= Standards regarding the Master and Deck Department (Mandatory minimum requirements for certification of officers in charge of a navigational watch on ships of 500 gross tons or more). This course is in the process of development under the auspices and helmsmanship of Capt. Pablito C. Dael, a well respected Master Mariner, a Harbor Pilot and Vice President of the Association of Compass Adjuster Philippines. Needless to say, his qualifications as an Instructor and an Assessor are incomparable. This course will certainly be an added skill both on our management and operational level deck officers as an integral part of Management Level Course Function: Navigation at the Management Level Table A-II/2 on columns 1 and 2; Function: Navigation at the operational level Table A-II/3 column 2. Completion of this course will quantify the advance skill acquired by the participants ahead of others. The Typhoon Avoidance Course will be developed after the completion of Compass Adjustment Course. We firmly believe that to mitigate disaster at sea that claim lives, destroy properties and environment, it is very essential to design this course and most importantly Capt. Pablito C. Dael is the author of this course and the facilitator as well. An advisory will be disseminated accordingly upon completion of the design.
